Lady Bucs Tame the Lions
Scooba, MS- The Shelton State Women's Basketball team moved to 4-0 on the season after defeating the East Mississippi Lady Lions 78-50 in the Lions home opener.
The Lady Bucs were led in scoring by sophomore Makala Hobdy who poured in a game high 16 points, going 6-12 from the field and 3-3 from the free throw line. Freshman Alana Obianozie fell just one steal shy of a triple-double posting a 14 point, 10 rebound, 9 steal game. Arissa Jenkins provided a spark off the bench, scoring 11 points, behind a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc. Julie Nekolna also ended the game in double figures, scoring 10.
Racing out to a 24-15 lead after the 1st quarter, the Lady Bucs once again saw a slow second quarter, only scoring 12 points, but held the Lady Lions to just 2 in the quarter. "We are still struggling to put together a complete basketball game," said head coach Madonna Thomspon after the victory. "We are doing really good things in spurts and our goal is to be able to put together 40 minutes of our best basketball together."
After sitting for 18 of the first 20 minutes, due to foul trouble, Makala Hobdy scored 13 of her 16 in the 3rd quarter, ballooning the Lady Buc lead to its largest of the game, 33 (62-29). The Lady Lions cut back into the deficit into the fourth outscoring the Lady Bucs 21-16 in the final frame bringing the final score to 78-50. "To go on the road and beat a well-coached team in their home opener is not easy, but we found a way," said head coach Madonna Thompson.
The Lady Bucs return to action on Thursday, November 14th, as they travel to Decatur, Mississippi to take on the East Central Community College Warriors at 5:30 PM.
