Bucs Notch 20th Win; Beats Bevill 11-2
TUSCALOOSA - The No. 8 Shelton State baseball team picked up its 20th win on Monday with a 11-2 win over Bevill State.
Shelton State (20-5) scored in four of the final five innings to post a run-rule win.
The Bucs scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings and then blew the game open with four runs in the eighth inning.
Bevill State (13-14) had its five-game winning streak snapped.
The Bucs took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when freshman pitcher/DH Jackson Henderson stroked a one-out and scored on sophomore centerfielder Pierce Dutton's two-out single.
Shelton State extended the lead to 3-0 on Henderson's two-run single in the fourth inning.
Bevill State, who was the designated home team, got a run back in the bottom of the fourth inning on Jason Dunn's RBI single.
The Bucs stretched the lead to 5-1 in the fifth scoring two runs on two walks, one error and two wild pitches.
Matthew McCaffrey's sacrifice fly in the fifth made it 5-2.
The Bucs tacked on another run in the sixth on sophomore DH Tripp Gann's sacrifice fly to make it 6-2.
Shelton State strung together six straight hits in the eighth inning to push the lead to 10-2.
Dutton led off the inning with a triple into the right field corner. Sophomore first baseman Brady Waugh followed with an RBI single you the middle to score Dutton.
Sophomore left fielder Hayes Alford doubled into the left field corner to put runners at second and third.
Freshman right fielder John Robicheaux followed with a two-run double.
Freshman third basemen Slade Sullivan brought Sullivan home with a single up the middle.
Freshman Will Harrison (3-1), the second of seven pitchers used by the Bucs, earned the win. He needed only 13 pitches to complete the perfect third inning.
Freshman Kenneth Diddell (0.1), freshman Landon Shumate (1 IP), Robicheaux (1 IP) and sophomore Weston Wright (1 IP) all had scoreless outings
The Bucs return to ACCC play against Gadsden State this Thursday and Saturday.
