Tuscaloosa- The Shelton State softball team dropped both games of their conference opening series to Snead State. The Lady Bucs dropped game 1, 2-1, before falling in the nightcap 7-0 to the Lady Parsons.
Game 1:
The Lady Bucs dropped a pitcher's duel that went into extra innings. Snead struck first in the game as they pushed one run across in the top of the 1st thanks to an error, walk, and a base hit. Lady Buc starter Victoria Hagemann would stifle the Lady Parson hitters over the next 6 innings as they were unable to score again despite putting runners on base.
The Lady Bucs pieced together 9 hits, 6 of those coming from the first three hitters in the lineup (Alana Spann, Layla Bradshaw, and Chloe Mitchell). Natalie Liner drove in the lone Shelton run on a 6th inning double.
Game 2:
Snead State posted 5 runs before recording an out to begin the game on 6 hits and an error as they ran away from the Lady Bucs in game 2. Lexi Darnell was responsible for all 5 runs before Mackenzie Harper entered in relief. Harper would go 7 innings allowing 2 runs on hits with 10 strikeouts.
Natalie Liner and Lauren Coker had 2 hits a piece as the Lady Buc offense was unable to push a run across. The Lady Bucs did not strike out or draw a walk the whole game as the Lady Parson defense made numerous plays to keep Shelton at bay.
The Lady Bucs travel to Boaz on Saturday to finish the 4 game series with the Snead State Lady Parsons.
