Lady Bucs Drop Pitcher's Duel to Itawamba
Tuscaloosa- The Shelton State softball team fell to the Itawamba Lady Indians, 2-1, in a pitchers' duel at Bowers Park on Thursday.
Unlike the Lady Bucs first go around with Itawamba, a game the Lady Bucs won 15-3, the Lady Indians pitching staff shut down the Shelton bats allowing just 1 run on 6 hits. Alyssa Clifft went the distance in the circle as she outdueled Shelton's Victoria Hagemann who also went all 9 innings allowing just 1 earned run on 7 hits. Chloe Mitchell went 2-3 on the day while Harley Johnson went 1-2 and drew 2 free passes.
The Lady Bucs struck first in the 2nd inning on a Natalie Liner double and would hold on to their 1-0 lead until the 6th inning when the Lady Indians pieced together a pair of hits to even the score at 1. Both pitchers would pitch around danger until the Lady Indians were able to manufacture a run, on two ground outs in the 9th inning, thanks to the international tiebreaker that places a runner on 2nd base in extra innings. The Lady Bucs loaded the bases in bottom half of the 9th but were unable to push a run across.
The Lady Bucs open up ACCC play on Thursday, March 6, against the Snead State Lady Parsons at Bowers Park at 2:00 PM.
