Shelton State Drops Overtime Nail-Biter
TUSCALOOSA – The Shelton State men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 70-63 overtime decision to Bishop State on Thursday night at the Umphrey Center.
Bishop State (15-6, 4-2 ACCC) outscored Shelton State 11-4 in the overtime period. Kedar Bodie, who played all 45 minutes, poured in a game-high 29 points, including six points in the overtime period. Bodie made 12-of-23 field goal attempts, including a pair 3-pointers in the win. Devin McCaine added 15 points for the Wildcats, including five field goals and a perfect 5-for-5 at the foul line.
Shelton State (10-10, 2-4 ACCC) was led in scoring by Troy Dunn and Nazir Griffin. Dunn scored 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor. He also added seven rebounds and two assists. Griffin had 17 points, doing most his damage at the foul line. He made his last nine free throw attempts and finished 9-for-10 at the line. Kuron Coleman hit a pair of 3-pointers and led the Bucs with 10 rebounds.
The hotly contested game featured 11 lead changes and eight ties. Neither team led by more than eight points.
The game had a wild finish to regulation time as Darius Brant had a steal and layup with six seconds left to give the Bucs a 59-58 lead.
Bishop State's Darren McFarlane was fouled with five seconds left and made one of two free throws to tie the game at 59-59.
The Bucs inbounded the ball and Griffin's half-court shot hit the front of the rim as time expired sending the game to overtime.
It was the Bucs first overtime game of the season. Bishop State improved to 3-0 in overtime games this season.
Shelton State hosts Calhoun on Monday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
