Bucs Blast Patriots
SELMA - The No. 6 ranked Shelton State baseball team scored in each of the first six innings en route to a 17-4 win over Wallace State Selma at Patriots Field.
Shelton State (24-6) recorded its 12th run-rule win of the season. The Bucs scored six runs in the first inning and added multiple runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Freshman catcher Grant Browning, freshman third baseman Slade Sullivan and sophomore shortstop Landen Ingram paced the 17-hit attack.
Browning went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, two doubles and two RBIs. Sullivan was 3-for-6 with two runs and one RBI. Ingram went 3-for-4 with one run, one double and three RBIs.
Sophomore DH Trenton Shirley (2-3, 2 runs, RBI, BB, HBP, SB), sophomore first baseman Brady Waugh (4 walks, run, sac fly, RBI), freshman right fielder Jackson Henderson (2-4, 3 runs, 2 RBIs, BB), and sophomore left fielder Tripp Gann (1-3, 2 runs, 3 walks, RBI) all reached base four times.
Freshman centerfielder Payton Zupancic went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
The Bucs used five pitchers in the game and came within one out of its sixth shutout.
Sophomore right-hander Skyler Hutto (1-0), sidelined with an injury, made his season debut and tossed a scoreless first inning.
Freshmen Landon Shumate and Jack Sanderson, and sophomores Bryant Akridge and Weston Wright also saw action on the mound.
Wallace-Selma (10-26) scored four unearned runs in the seventh to avoid the shutout. Seth Swain had a three-run double after a two-out error.
The Bucs are back in action on Thursday, March 27 as they host Lawson State in a 2 p.m. double header.
