PANAMA CITY, Fla. - No. 9 Shelton State and No. 12 Gulf Coast State had an old-fashioned pitchers duel on Saturday afternoon at Frazier Field.
In the end, Gulf Coast prevailed 5-1 to salvage the final game of the series.
The Bucs won the first two games 11-1 and 17-2.
A trio of Commodores pitchers limited the Bucs to just five base runners in the finale.
Jordan Martinez (4-0) held the Bucs to one run on three hits through seven innings. He struck out 12 and walked one.
Ben Clenney tossed a scoreless eighth inning, where he allowed one hit and struck out two.
Ezequiel Rojas recorded his fourth save of the season with a three-up, three-down ninth inning.
Gulf Coast (12-4) led 2-1 after three innings on a pair of solo home runs.
Colton Wombles hit a solo home run in the first inning to give the Commodores their first lead of the series.
Shelton State (9-2) answered right back with a run in the third to tie the game at 1-1.
Freshman third baseman Slade Sullivan stroked a lead off double and came around to score on a sac bunt by sophomore shortstop Paxton Ponder and sac fly by sophomore catcher Lawson Neal.
The Commodores took the lead for good on Jack Reynolds' solo home run in the bottom of the third I nning.
Shelton State pitchers matched the Commodores on the mound and the game remained 2-1 through seven innings.
Freshman Jackson Henderson (2-1) allowed the two solo home runs in his three innings of work. He struck out two batters.
