Dunn's 2nd Half Explosion Propels Bucs in Comeback Victory
Bay Minette, AL- The Shelton State Men's Basketball team opened ACCC play with 87-80 comeback victory over the Coastal-South Coyotes, thanks to a huge 2nd half from sophomore Troy Dunn.
Dunn scored 20 of his game high 29 in the 2nd half as the Bucs overcame a 6-point halftime deficit. Nazir Griffin poured in 19 points while Kuron Coleman and DJ Hamlett both scored 13 behind a trio of trey balls. Hasani Rivera added 11 points.
The game was truly a tale of two halves as the Coyote's started the game hot behind a 12-point outburst by Stephen Williams and a trio of 3 balls from Bryce Bracco. The Bucs, down by as much as 13, battled back to a 9-point deficit before Coastal-South called a timeout with 14 seconds left in the half. The Coyotes took a 3 ball with 5 seconds left that fell short and into the hands of the Bucs who raced down the floor and DJ Hamlett knocked down a trey ball at the buzzer to cut even further into the Coyote lead.
The momentum from the buzzer-beater carried over into the second half as the Bucs took their first lead of the game 55-54 with 15 minutes left to play in the game. The Bucs would never look back as Troy Dunn went on a 7-0 run by himself including a 4-point play to stretch the Buccaneers lead to 8. The Bucs would lead by as many as 13 in the final 7 minutes as they were able to fend off the rabid Coyote rally, icing the game from the free throw line, going 8-9 down the stretch.
The Bucs return to action as they host Merdian on Saturday, January 11th at 4:00 PM.
