Bucs Use Strong Second Half to Down Southern Crescent Tech
TUSCALOOSA – Shelton State had four players in double figures as the Bucs used a second-half comeback to defeat Southern Crescent Technical College 75-70 at the Umphrey Center.
Sophomore guard Kuron Coleman, freshman guard DJ Hamlett, sophomore forward Darius Brant and sophomore guard Nazir Griffin combined for 55 points in the Bucs five-point win over the Tigers.
Coleman led the way with a team-high 16 points, including four three-pointers. Hamlett poured in 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor. Hamlin scored more points against the Tigers than he had scored in his first three games (14 points this season). Brant added 14 points and seven rebounds. Griffin added 10 points, including eight in the second half.
Shelton State (4-3) opened the second half with a 12-0 run to take 48-35 lead. Coleman and Brant accounted for all 12 points in the run. The Bucs held the Tigers scoreless for the first six minutes of the half.
Southern Crescent Tech got back in the game as Matthew Wills and Nicholas Stewart combined for 16 second half points. Willis finished with a game-high 20 points, while Stewart added 12 points. JaCarlin Dennis, who made two three pointers in the first half, ended with 10 points.
The Bucs iced the game at the foul line with Dunn hitting 6-of-8 free throws down the stretch.
Southern Crescent Tech (0-7) jumped out to an 11-2 lead before the Bucs battled back and took their first lead at 18-17. The Tigers led 36-35 at the half.
Shelton State will host Atlanta Sports Academy Post Grad on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m.
