Tuscaloosa- The Shelton State softball team split with Central Alabama CC (8-7; 4-8) on Tuesday at Bowers Park in Tuscaloosa.
The Lady Bucs opened their home slate of games off campus as they await the finishing touches of their new on campus complex.
Game 1
The Lady Bucs got out to a hot start scoring 2 runs on 2 hits in the bottom of the 1st inning. Neither team was able to push a run across until CACC did so in the 4th inning. The Lady Trojans were able to grab their first lead of the game in the top of the 5th inning, thanks to a 3-run home run and steal of home. Trailing for the first time in the contest, the Lady Bucs answered the bell, rattling off 5 straight hits and retaking the lead on a Jamie Hocutt ground out. Not to be outdone, the Lady Trojans would once again take the lead 7-6, heading into the bottom of the 6th inning. Lauren Coker belted a two-run home run to give the Bucs an 8-7 lead that would hold as the Lady Trojans went 3 up, 3 down in the 7th.
Coker was 2-3 in the game with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Chloe Mitchell and Willeshia Lang both batted in 2 runs. Mackenzie Harper went 4 and 1/3's innings before Lexi Darnell closed the door over the last 2 and 2/3's.
Game 2
The Lady Bucs dropped game 2 after a huge 6th inning from the Lady Trojans. A trio of hits and a HBP plated 2 runs for CACC in the 2nd inning, followed by an error in the 4th to bring their lead to 3-0. Natalie Liner was able to bring in a run on a sacrifice fly in the 4th, but the Lady Bucs still trailed 3-1. 4 hits and an error by pitcher Victoria Hagemann plated 5 runs in the 6th for the Lady Trojans bring the Lady Buc deficit to 8-1. The Lady Bucs did not go quietly, as they pieced together 5 hits and a HBP in the bottom of the 7th to plate 3 runs before Tyeshia Willams was cut down at the plate to end the game.
Harley Johnson went 2-4 at the plate adding 1 RBI while Alana Spann went 3-4 with a run scored. Victoria Hagemann went the distance in the circle allowing 4 earned runs on 9 hits with 5 strikeouts.
The Lady Bucs head to Oxford, AL for a quartet of games over the weekend in the JUCO Extravaganza!
