Men's Basketball Narrowly Falls in Heart-Stopping Contest
Paramus, NJ – In a dramatic and hard-fought matchup at home, the Bergen Community College Bulldogs came up just short, falling to Luzerne County Community College, 84-83. The contest saw both teams deliver exceptional performances, with the Bulldogs battling until the final buzzer.
The Bulldogs demonstrated incredible teamwork and resilience, with standout performances from key players. Jordan Lugo led the charge with a game-high 24 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. Lugo also grabbed eight rebounds and tallied five assists in his well-rounded effort. Louis Sosa provided significant support, contributing 18 points while also hitting all four of his three-point attempts.
Jayden Opio and Amire Walker added 11 and 10 points, respectively, showcasing their versatility on both ends of the floor. The Bulldogs excelled from the perimeter, shooting an outstanding 100% from three-point range as a team. Bergen's composure at the free-throw line was another bright spot, converting at 78.6%.
Despite their strong effort, Bergen struggled to contain Luzerne's inside game, allowing 56 points in the paint and 19 second-chance points. Luzerne's Vagiba Donzo dominated the boards with 17 rebounds and posted a double-double with 16 points. The visiting team also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 20 points off Bergen miscues.
The Bulldogs entered halftime with a narrow 35-32 lead, but Luzerne's offensive adjustments in the second half proved decisive. A thrilling finish kept the crowd on edge, with Bergen narrowly missing a chance to secure their first win of the season.
