Brant’s 27 Points Leads Bucs Past Coastal South
TUSCALOOSA – Darius Brant poured in a season-high 27 points to pace four players in double figures as the Shelton State men's basketball team defeated Coastal Alabama South 75-61 at the Umphrey Center on Thursday.
Brant scored 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting in the win over the Coyotes. The 25 points and 10 field goals made were both season highs. He tallied 17 points in the first half and 10 in the second half to pace the Bucs.
It was his first double figure game since scoring 15 points at Jones College on Jan. 6. In his previous eight games, he only scored 38 total points.
Shelton State (12-10, 4-4 ACCC) has won back-to-back games for the first time December.
In addition to Brant, Nazir Griffin, Troy Dunn and Hasani Rivera also reached double figures. Griffin tallied 15 points and made 8-of-9 free throws. Rivera added a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Dunn added 12 points.
Coastal Alabama South (10-10, 2-6 ACCC) had three players in double figures, including Tayshaun Gilchrist (18), Mahki Jones (14) and David Giddens (10).
The Bucs trailed 30-27 at halftime and the game remained close until the final eight minutes when the Bucs took control in the second half.
Shelton State is back in action on Monday, Feb. 10 at Lawson State. The next home game is Thursday, Feb. 13 against Wallace State-Hanceville.
