Cold Shooting Night Dooms Bucs Against Lawson
Birmingham- The Shelton State men's basketball team was not able to overcome a bad night from beyond the arc in an 82-61 loss to Lawson State.
The Bucs shot just 22% (5-22) from the 3 and 30% (21-70) from the field. Troy Dunn and Nazir Griffin led the Bucs with 15 points apiece. Dunn was the only Buc to shoot above 40% from the field. Hasani Rivera pulled down 14 of the Bucs 35 rebounds. Desean Sellers had a game high 23 points for the Cougars.
The Bucs were never able to find solid footing in the contest, trailing by 24 at the break (47-23). Dunn paced the Bucs in the opening frame with 9 points. Lawson knocked down 5 trey balls in the 1st half compared to just 5 in the entire game for the Bucs.
Lawson would strech their lead to 30 points with 11 minutes to play before the Bucs would battle back to cut it to 19. There were 59 free throws shot in the game including 25 by the Cougars in the 2nd half alone. The Cougars were able to knock down 17 of the 25 shots to keep the Bucs rally at bay.
The Bucs return to action on Thursday, February 13, as they host Wallace State.
