#11 McLennan women tame Temple
The 11th-ranked McLennan women went on the road to pick up a 66-52 win over the Temple Lady Leopards to move to 6-1 in conference play.
Temple opened the game with a 3-pointer from the wing by Aniyah Lewis and led 4-6 with eight minutes to play in the first. A 4-0 run comprised of a pair of free throws by Jaylice Rosario and jumper from Imani McCray gave the Lady Leopards a six-point led at 10-4. Temple held that six-point lead for the majority of the frame and were up 20-14 going to the second.
The second quarter was all McLennan. The squad opened on 14-0 run, highlighted by eight points from Jalayah Ingram, put McLennan up 28-20 with 3:51 to play before the half. A Reagan Pavesi free throw for the Leopards halted the run but McLennan continued to dominate. Temple managed just five free throws in the frame as McLennan built 13-point lead at the break, 38-25.
McLennan opened the third with a nothing-but-net 3-pointer from Tajenae Gooden to push the lead to 16 before Temple began to rally. An 8-0 Lady Leopard run ignited by another Lewis 3-pointer cut the McLennan lead to nine, 41-33 with 6:36 to play in the third. McLennan led by eight, 48-35 with just under four minutes remaining in the quarter. A 5-0 run by the squad extended the lead back to 13 just a minute and a half later. Temple rallied again the down the stretch and trailed by nine going into the final quarter, 48-39.
Another McLennan run opened the fourth quarter with baskets by Charnelle Hoof, Gooden and Ingram, 54-39. Temple's Mychal White hit a 3-pointer from the wing stopped McLennan's progress momentarily before Hannah Mouton drained a wide-open 3-pointer of her own, 57-42. McLennan's defense was able to hold Temple at bay the rest of the way to secure the win.
Jalayah Ingram led McLennan with 23 points, and Tajenae Gooden added 12.
