Sharks Kick Off Conference Schedule with 8-5 Victory
The Miami Dade Sharks delivered a strong offensive performance to secure an 8-5 win over College of Central Florida, backed by timely hitting and solid relief pitching.
The Sharks' offense struck early, plating runs in five of the first six innings. Matt Thorsen led the charge with a solo home run in the fifth inning, while David Zamora contributed three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Talan Beckford also played a key role, driving in two runs with a clutch double in the sixth inning.
On the mound, Enrique Sierra started for Miami Dade, allowing two runs over 3.1 innings before Gabriel Cruz took over in relief. Cruz pitched 4.2 innings, striking out seven while allowing three runs. Jack Garvey closed out the game, earning the save with a scoreless ninth inning.
College of Central Florida fought to stay in the game, tallying 16 hits. Marcus Bradshaw had a two-run double, while Dawson Harman and Cooper Jones each homered. However, the Patriots struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities, grounding into two double plays.
Miami Dade finished with 14 hits and took advantage of Central Florida's pitching miscues, including wild pitches and hit batters.
The Sharks will look to complete the series sweep on Saturday when they host College of Central Florida at home.
