LCCC volleyball falls in five to Central Wyoming

RIVERTON, WY - Trouble in the fourth and fifth sets derailed the Laramie County Community College volleyball teams strong start against Central Wyoming College as the Rustlers rallied to win the final two sets and take down the Golden Eagles 3-2 on Friday evening, 29-27, 21-25, 25-22, 20-25, 9-15.

The opening set was a little slow at the start for the Golden Eagles, falling down early, but rallying back from down as many as five in the opening set to take the lead at 23-22. From there, they kept the pressure on the Rustlers, gaining set point at 24, 25, 26 and 28 before clinching the set 29-27 in extra points.

Elysiana Fonseca was big down that stretch, recording four points in her final rotation at the net to keep the Golden Eagles ahead in extra points.

LCCC suffered a scare in the second set with Fonseca had to be pulled for an apparent injury, but it didn't slow down the momentum as they jumped out to a 6-2 lead.

Fonseca would return on her next rotation but so did the Rustler attack who rallied to tie the game at 14 and again five more times before taking the lead at 21-20. CWC won four of the next five points to tie the match at one-all with a 25-20 set win.

The Golden Eagles played the spoiler in the third set, coming back from down early and forcing ties five more times and would rally to win the set 25-22.

Set four brought a surge from the Rustlers that broke open a tight set after they took the lead in the middle points, charging ahead by as many as six at 17-11. LCCC did close the gap to three at 23-20, but they couldn't stop the bleeding enough as the match went to a fifth set after a 25-20 final score.

Central Wyoming came out aggressively in the fifth set and forced LCCC to take a timeout at the switch down 8-3. After a conversation, a scoring error was discovered and LCCC was down 8-4 coming out of the timeout, and even climbed to as close as two down 9-7. Unfortunately the attack couldn't find their way past the block of the Rustlers and Central Wyoming closed the set on a 6-2 run and finished off the comeback to take the final set 15-9 and win the match 3-2.
