Pirates Split Opening Weekend

Mineral Area 5 PSC 1

In a challenging start to the season, the Pirates were defeated 5-1 in their opener. The lone bright spot offensively came from Mason Onate, who scored the team's only run, driven in by Dallas Dale. Caden Hartman made a notable debut with his first collegiate hit, a double, marking the only extra-base hit for the Pirates. Drew Reaves and Will Barter also contributed with hits.

On the mound, Matteo Pare took the start, delivering a solid performance over three innings. Pare allowed just one run and struck out four batters, showcasing his potential for the season ahead. 

Northwest Shoals 14 PSC 1

In their second game, the Pirates faced a tough 14-1 loss to Northwest Shoals. The team struggled offensively, managing only two hits in the game. Caden Hartman continued to impress with a double, while Drew Reaves added the other hit. Mason Onate drove in the Pirates' sole run, with Hartman crossing the plate.

Mineral Area 0 PSC 12

On the second day of competition the Pirates' offense came alive in a commanding 12-0 victory over Mineral Area, scoring all 12 runs in just four innings. The team tallied seven hits, five of which were for extra bases. Kaden Wilks set the tone early with a two-run homer in the first inning, driving in Dallas Dale, who had doubled just before the homer. Lincoln Pack had an outstanding performance, hitting two home runs and driving in seven runs in the run-rule win.

On the mound, Justin Hoff delivered a stellar start, pitching four innings, striking out three, and allowing no runs on just one hit. Emmanuel Lopez made his first appearance, striking out two in one inning of work, sealing the shutout victory.

Northwest Shoals 2 PSC 3

In a closely contested game, the Pirates secured a 3-2 win over Northwest Shoals. Kaden Wilks led the offense with two hits, including an RBI double that scored Dallas Dale and got the offense rolling. Will Barter and Drew Reaves each contributed a hit and scored a run.

Starting pitcher Makaio Cisneros was impressive, going three innings, striking out three, and allowing only two hits in his shutout innings. Dalton Biggs earned the win with three strong innings, striking out five. Bradley Link closed out the game, earning his first save with a scoreless seventh inning to secure the victory.

The Pirates will look to build on these performances as they continue their season.
