GAME ONE: HVCC 5 - BERGEN 2
The Hudson Valley Vikings were triumphant over Bergen CC Bulldogs 5-2 on Saturday at the RussMatt Spring Invitational.
A passed ball put Bergen CC Bulldogs on the board in the top of the second but the Vikings captured the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the fifth when Brendan Connolly singled, scoring one run, and Aidan Heffner homered to left field, scoring three runs.
Tyler Spenard earned the win for the Vikings. The starter allowed eight hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking two. Tyler Murray appeared in relief for the Vikings.
Heffner, the number nine hitter for the Vikings, led the way with three runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Tyree Jackson, Matthew Carrera, Connolly, Jameson Balich, and Heffner each collected one hit for the Vikings.
GAME TWO: HVCC 11 - UCONN AVERY POINT 1
Tyree Jackson hit two home runs and drove in three as the Vikings defeated UConn Avery Point 11-1 on Saturday at the RussMatt Spring Invitational. Jackson homered in the sixth and fifth innings.
A single by Logan Norman put the Vikings on the board in the top of the first. The Valley Boys jumped back into the lead in the top of the third inning after Jameson Balich singled down the left field line, and Brendan Connolly singled to right field, each scoring one run. The Vikings added to their lead with two runs in the top of the fifth inning thanks to home runs by Jackson and Balich. They added four more runs in the top of the sixth inning on three hits. Matthew Carrera singled, scoring two runs, and Jackson homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Alex Deitz earned the win for the Vikings. The starting pitcher gave up zero hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking four. Pierson Davis tossed one inning of no-run ball for the Vikings in relief. The pitcher allowed zero hits, striking out two and walking none.
The Vikings collected 13 hits in the game. Balich and Jayden Kennedy each collected multiple hits for the Vikings.
