GOCC men fall at Lansing
Jamison leads Vikings with 19 points.
LANSING — In a MCCAA Western Conference tilt at Lansing, the host Starts knocked off the Glen Oaks men's basketball team 91-74.
Lansing jumped out to an 8-2 lead before the Vikings settled in offensively as Mike Phillips hit a jumper and 3-pointer, followed by back-to-back Akin Smith jumpshots to make it a 12-9 game in favor of the Stars. A field goal by Phillips cut the defecit to 12-11 and the teams would stay within a couple possessions for the first 10 minutes of play. A Will Jamison 3-pointer put GOCC up 22-20 with 9:06 left in the first half.
Aaron Humphrey Jr. extended the lead to 24-20 but the Stars would go on a 9-4 run to regain the advantage.
A Jamison jumper and a Humphrey Jr. trey put Glen Oaks back out front, 33-29, with 4:26 remaining before halftime. With a couple of shots from behind the arc, Lansing surged in the final minutes to a 45-37 lead at the break.
Lansing extended the cushion to 13 points early in the second half and led by as many as 22 with 14:38 to play. Glen Oaks battled back to get within single digits Humphrey capitalized at the foul line, Phillips drained a 3-pointer, Amauri Moore added a triple, Jamison hit two foul shots and a 3-pointer and Moore hit a jumper to make it 69-62 with under 10 minutes left.
A Darrius Roach field goal cut the deficit to five points at 71-66, but that was as close as the Vikings would get.
Jamison led GOCC with 19 points, followed by Humphrey Jr. with 17. Also in double figures were Moore (12) and Phillips (10). Moore paced the team with seven rebounds, Phillips had four assists and Akin Smith and Humphrey Jr. finished with one block.
Glen Oaks dropped to 12-10 overall and 5-3 in conference play. Lansing improved to 12-11 and 4-4 in the Western Conference.
