MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Mid Michigan College softball team has opened their season with a 5-11 record, however the Lakers have won three of their last four games as they head down to Sports Force Park in Sandusky, Ohio for five games against MCCAA opponents.
Mid will begin the weekend on Friday (Mar. 28th) with games against GRCC and Alpena, followed by Muskegon and Bay on Saturday (Mar. 29th). They'll close the weekend trip on Sunday (Mar. 30th) against Delta College.
SCOUTING GRCC: The Raiders enter the weekend 15-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. GRCC is on an eight game winning streak after losing 3-0 to USC Sumter on Feb. 27th. Natalee Beck is a player to watch for the Raiders with a .533 batting average and 21 RBIs, while Madison Miller is hitting .523 with 22 RBIs. In the pitching circle, Kalani Stowe sports a 5-0 record and 0.31 ERA, while striking out 42 batters and throwing two complete games.
SCOUTING ALPENA: ACC is 3-8, however they earned a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday (Mar. 25th) over the Siena Heights JV team. Kirsten Neubecker is hitting a team best .469, while Alaina Neubecker leads the Lumberjacks with seven RBIs. Taylor Krentz has pitched a team high 31 innings with a 1-3 record and 17 strikeouts.
SCOUTING MUSKEGON: The Jayhawks are 7-6 overall. Kennedy Johnson leads the team offensively with 11 RBIs, while Olive Stall and Delaney Vollmer have each driven in 10 runs. Vollmer is hitting a team high .429 in 11 games played, while also going 3-0 on the mound with a 2.95 ERA. Another pitcher to watch is Grace Lewis with a 3-2 record and 4.15 ERA in 30.1 innings pitched.
SCOUTING BAY: The Norse were supposed to meet the Lakers last weekend at Mount Pleasant High School, however due to weather those games were postponed and will be made up at a later date. Bay has only played two games so far this spring, going 1-1 in a doubleheader split against Carl Sandburg College. The Norse lost game one 10-8, before winning the nightcap 14-13. McKayla Mott hit two home runs in the victory, while Anna Boutilier also hit a home run. Krista Carello earned the win on the mound, going 4.0 innings with six strikeouts.
SCOUTING DELTA: The Pioneers have started the year 4-6 overall. Hannah Hycki is hitting a team best .414, while Jolie Buschlen and Kortney Kotenko have driven in five RBIs each. In the circle, Cadence Swartz has posted a 3-0 record with five appearances.
A LOOK AT THE LAKERS: Mid is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Olivet College. The Lakers won game one 12-1 in five innings, before winning game two 8-2. Offensively, the team is led by Alexis Mielke with a .524 batting average, two home runs, and 10 RBIs. Phoenix Shaw has a team high 20 hits in 49 at-bats. Adria Reed has hit two home runs and drove in 10, while Kylie Pifer and Emmah Hanson each have a home run. In the pitching circle, Tessa Cameron is 3-4 overall with 43 strikeouts, while Brianne Halfmann has struck out 16 batters in 40.1 innings pitched.
UP NEXT: Following the weekend trip to Ohio, Mid will travel to Lansing on Tuesday (Apr. 1st) to take on the Stars in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM.
