Trojans stop Marshalltown CC, 75-34
MARSHALLTOWN - The NIACC women's basketball team cruised to a 75-34 victory over Marshalltown CC Wednesday night in an ICCAC contest.
NIACC led 23-9 after the first quarter and opened up a 38-15 lead at the half. The Trojans outscored the Tigers 37-19 in the second half to improve their overall record to 21-6 and 11-5 in the ICCAC.
Sophomore guard Keeley Steele, the league's player of the week for the week of Feb. 10-16, led the Trojans with 19 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Sophomore Karly Holm scored 11 points and freshman Reggi Spotts scored 10 points.
Freshman Tayler Helgemoe led the Trojans with a career-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore Tori Miller, who scored eight points, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out six assists and collected two steals.
Holm had seven rebounds, three steals and two assists. Spotts grabbed seven rebounds with four assists and three steals.
NIACC freshman Kelsey McDonough scored nine points, including three 3-point goals. McDonough also had five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Trojans' Grace Berding scored nine points, including three 3-point goals. Berding has a total of eight 3-point goals in the last two games as she connected on five 3-pointers in last Sunday's home win over Iowa Central.
NIACC returns to action Saturday at home against DMACC (21-7, 12-4) in its final regular season home game starting at 1 p.m.
