
Game 1: PVCC 10, CNCC 9 (7)
It came down to the wire on January 25 at PVCC, as the Pumas grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 10-9, over Colorado Northwestern.
The game was tied at nine in the bottom of the seventh when Jared Swarbrick singled, scoring one run.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as the Pumas collected 11 hits and the Spartans 10 in the high-scoring affair.
Colorado Northwestern got to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first and adding four more in the second inning.
The Pumas made the score 6-4 in the bottom of the third inning when Swarbrick hit a solo home run to left field, Erick Dessens doubled, scoring one run, Reilly Blake doubled, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.
A grand slam to left field by Cooper Holtorf gave the Pumas the lead, 8-6, in the bottom of the fourth.
Colorado Northwestern tied the game up in the top of the fifth thanks to two singles, and took the lead in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, to give the Spartans the leg up, 9-8.
A single by Blake in the bottom of the seventh tied the game, and Swarbrick's walk off single gave the Pumas the victory.
Alejandro "Trae" Santos earned the win for the Pumas. The southpaw gave up one hit and one run over one inning, striking out none and walking none. Dylan Droelle pitched three innings in relief for the Pumas. The reliever allowed five hits and two runs (one earned) while, striking out four and walking one. John Witt led things off on the hill for the Pumas. The starter allowed four hits and six runs over one and one-third innings, striking out two and walking three.
The Pumas collected 11 hits in the game. Number seven hitter, Swarbrick, showed the depth of the Pumas' lineup, by leading them with three hits in four at bats. Holtorf went 1-4 at the plate and led the team with four runs batted in. Dessens and Blake each collected multiple hits for the Pumas. Colorado Northwestern Spartans piled up 10 hits in the game.
Game 2: PVCC 14, CNCC 9 (7)
Aiden Rodriguez collected three hits in four at bats, as the Pumas defeated Colorado Northwestern 14-9 on January 25 at PVCC. Rodriguez singled in the sixth, second and fifth innings.
Bats blistered as the Pumas collected 12 hits and Colorado Northwestern tallied three in the high-scoring game.
A passed ball put Colorado Northwestern Spartans on the board in the top of the first.
The Pumas captured the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the second when Rodriguez singled, scoring one run, Jose Mendoza singled, scoring two runs, and Juan Kalemera hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
The Pumas added one run in the third after Reilly Blake singled to left field.
The Pumas scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Logan Yule, Rodriguez and Mendoza all singled, scoring one run each. Andrew Armas tripled, scoring two runs.
Colorado Northwestern Spartans scored five runs on two hits in the top of the sixth inning.
Sam Round earned the win for the Pumas. The starter allowed one hit and one run (zero earned) over three innings, striking out six and walking four. Luis Ozuna threw one inning of zero-run ball for the Pumas in relief. The righty allowed zero hits, striking out none and walking two.
The Pumas collected 12 hits in the game. Mendoza and Rodriguez were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for the Pumas while hitting back-to-back.
