#2 Highlanders slam #19 San Jacinto
The #2 McLennan Highlanders slammed the #19 San Jacinto Ravens for a pair of run-rule victories on opening night at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan took game one 15-7 in five innings with Landrie Harris getting the win and Addyson Canfield picking up the save.
San Jacinto scored two runs in the top of the first. Madison Carr was hit by the pitch but out at second on a fielder's choice by Iliana Melendez. Madelyn Perez and Yadira Ortiz both walked, loading the bases. Peyton Watson then doubled to score Melendez and Perez.
McLennan responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Madison Garcia drew a lead-off walk, Ally Thompson singled and Trinity Allen walked, loading the bases. Ellie Loveless followed with a double, scoring Garcia but Thompson was thrown out at third. Mickayla Tosch then doubled to score Allen, and Lilli Piersons tripled to score Tosch. Tehya Pitts singled and scored on a triple by Aynsli Lawson.
Two more Raven runs scored in the second. Bree Winkelman singled and Alicia Briones walked. Carr reached on an error, scoring Winkelman. Melendez then singled to score Briones.
Another five McLennan runs scored in the second. Garcia and Thompson both walked, and Allen doubled to score Garcia. Loveless followed with a sacrifice fly to score Thompson, and Allen scored on the throw. Tosch walked and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Piersons. Pitts singled, and Tosch scored on a wild pitch. Lawson walked, and Pitts scored on an error.
The final three San Jacinto runs scored in the fourth. Kamryn DeLeon singled but was caught stealing. Winkelman and Briones both walked. Melendez singled and Winkelman scored on the throw. Angelina Morales reached on an error, scoring Briones and Melendez.
The Highlanders sealed the run-rule with five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Tosch singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Piersons. Pitts and Lawson both singled, loading the bases. MJ Nicholson doubled, clearing the bases. Garcia walked and Allen reached on an error. Loveless singled to score Delanie Roeder, the pinch runner for Nicholson, and Garcia.
McLennan dominated in the nightcap, defeating San Jacinto 13-1 with Natalie Klenda picking up the win in the circle.
Four Highlander runs scored in the first. Pitts walked, stole her way around to third and scored on a single by Allen. Tosch walked, and Macie Jansky singled to score Allen. Tosch and Jansky both scored on an error.
Two more McLennan runs scored in the second as Pitts singled and scored on a home run over the centerfield wall by Allen.
The Ravens only run came in the top of the third. Carr singled and advanced to second on a ground out by Melendez. Morales singled, and Carr scored on a ground out by Perez.
The Highlanders exploded for seven runs in the fourth. Thompson and Allen both walked, and Thompson scored on a single by Alyssa Moreno. Tosch singled and Jansky doubled, scoring Allen and Moreno. Garcia walked, loading the bases. A fielder's choice by Roeder scored Tosch and put Garcia out at second. Pitts then triple to score Jansky and Roeder. Thompson walked, and Allen doubled to score Pitts.
McLennan continues play in the Battle on the Bosque with a 3 p.m. doubleheader Saturday against Blinn.
