A solid first half by Cayuga Community College Men's Basketball wasn't enough to earn a home win against #8 Mohawk Valley Community College on Sunday.

The Spartans stayed with the Hawks for the first half and trailed by just single digits at halftime. The Hawks dominated the second half, though, and came away with an 82-54 win.

An early 14-0 run in the first half gave the Hawks a double-digit lead, but the Spartans buckled down on defense and limited the Hawks to just 39 points total in the half. Several late three-pointers by Cayuga helped the Spartans cut Mohawk Valley's lead to seven at halftime.

The second half was controlled by the Hawks, though, as the Spartans struggled on the offensive end. Mohawk Valley ran out 10 straight points to start the frame and led by double-digits the rest of the way.

Gerod Jackson and Solomon Mitchell led the Spartans with 11 points each, and Rian Hall and Jorge Jimenez had seven points each.

The Spartans are now 1-5 on the season. Cayuga is home again on Wednesday, Nov. 20, to host Jefferson Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
