Spartan Men Improve to 3-0 With 77-73 Road Win Over Northland

The M State Men's Basketball team shot 49% from the field and held a 38-26 advantage on the boards as they defeated Northland Community and Technical College 77-73 on Saturday in Thief River Falls.  With the win, the Spartan improve to 3-0 on the season.  M State made 15-of-21 free throw attempts (71.4%) and hit 35% (7-21) of their 3's.

Foday Sheriff continued his hot start, recording another double-double with 22 points and a dozen rebounds.  He also dished out 5 assists and had a pair of steals.  Mason Muir (17 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals) and Yonis Mohamud (16 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists) also scored in double digits.  Javin Tindall contributed 8 points and 5 boards.

Northland had two players come off the bench to lead them in scoring as Tre Jones had a team high 18, making 5-of-10 3's, and Etienne Aime finished with 13.  Starter Lewis Jones was also in double figures with 11.  The Pioneers made 11-of-23 (47.8%) three-pointers, shot 40.6% (26-64) overall and went 10-of-16 (62.5%) from the free throw line.  Assist leaders were Aaron Wilson with 8 and Daveon Turner with 6.

M State will travel to Grand Rapids on Monday to face Northern College-Itasca.
