
Herkimer Rolls Past Genesee, Advances to Region 3 Championship
The Herkimer Generals Men's basketball team is heading back to the Region 3 Championship Game after an impressive 86-65 win over Genesee Community College in Saturday's semifinal matchup.
The Generals (23-3) came out strong, taking a 36-30 lead into halftime before breaking the game open in the second half. Kenny Freeman and Jayson McGhee led the way offensively, each scoring 20 points. Freeman was lights-out from deep, hitting 3-of-3 from three-point range, while McGhee connected on four threes and added six assists.
Oladele Oladitan made his presence felt in the paint, finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Jessie Kilian played a key role in running the offense, handing out eight assists, while the Generals' defense forced key turnovers and kept Genesee from finding any rhythm.
With the win, Herkimer moves on to the Region 3 Championship Game for the second straight year, keeping their postseason hopes alive. The Generals will now look to bring home the regional title and secure a spot in the NJCAA National Tournament.
