November 25, 2024
The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks gained their fifth win of the season against the Southwestern Michigan Roadrunners 62-57 in Dowagiac, MI. The game was a physical showdown with neither team backing down. The Jayhawks and the Roadrunners traded blows in the first half, but the Roadrunners utilized their length and athleticism to hold the Jayhawks to just 22 points in the first half, and Southwestern led 31 – 22 after 20 minutes of play.
But the Muskegon Jayhawks could not be counted out, and in the second half they were able to land some punches of their own. The Jayhawks – with the help of their 2-2-1 full court press were able to manufacture Southwestern turnovers along with an abundance of stops on the defensive end to cut the deficit and take the lead late. Muskegon stayed in their press until the final buzzer and were able to seal the game with clutch free throws from sophomores Kevon Washington, Darius Williams and Will Chye. Chye lead the team in scoring with 17 points, sophomore forward Joe Russau added 15 and Washington finished with 11.
The win improves the Jayhawks record to 5-2. The Jayhawk hope to grind out another victory on Tuesday, December 3rd against Aquinas College JV at home. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
