Highlanders top Apaches
The 24th-ranked McLennan Highlander picked up a 12-6 non-conference victory over the Tyler Apaches this afternoon with Drake Threadgill getting the win on the mound.
Tyler began the scoring with a run in the second. Levin Risenhoover doubled and advanced on a fly out by Gabe Flores. Nico Ruedas was hit by the pitch, and Risenhoover scored on a passed ball.
The Apaches added three runs in the third. Grayson Lincecum walked and Preston Newberry doubled. Finn Kaiyala then singled to score Lincecum, and Newberry scored on a sacrifice fly by Zack Zavala. Risenhoover singled, and Troy Johnson singled to score Kaiyala.
McLennan took the lead with five runs in the bottom of the third. Abdiel Hernandez-Sostre singled and stole second. McClane Helton and Marcus Smith both walked, loading the bases. AJ Goytia was hit by the pitch, scoring Hernandez-Sostre. Daniel Harden followed with a grand slam.
Two more Highlander runs scored in the fourth. Helton was hit by the pitch, Smith singled and Goytia walked to load the bases. Harden then singled to score Helton and Smith.
McLennan added four runs in the fifth. Ty Waid led off with a solo home run. Cage McCloud was hit by the pitch and advanced on a sac bunt by Hernandez-Sostre. McCloud stole third and scored on a double by Sherman Johnson. Johnson stole third and scored on an error. Smith followed with an in-the-park home run.
The Highlanders final run came in the sixth. Waid was safe on a dropped third strike, and McCloud was hit by the pitch again. Johnson walked to load the bases, and Smith was hit by the pitch to score Waid.
Tyler rounded out the scoring with two runs in the ninth. Newberry walked and Kaiyala reached on an error. Zavala also walked, loading the bases. Risenhoover reached on an error, scoring Newberry and Kaiyala.
