Highlanders fall to Apaches in 12 innings
The 18th-ranked McLennan Highlanders battled the Tyler Apaches for 12 innings with Tyler walking away with an 8-7 victory. Gage Goldman took the loss on the mound.
McLennan scored three runs in the top of the first inning. AJ Goytia walked and Deiten Lachance singled. Marcus Smith walked loading the bases. McClane Helton then doubled to score Goytia and Lachance., and Smith scored on an error.
Another Highlander run scored in the second. Walker Freeman and Brecken Menuet were both hit by the pitch. Freeman then stole third and scored on a wild pitch.
McLennan added a run in the fourth. Menuet and Harden both singled. Menuet then scored on a sacrifice fly by AJ Goytia.
The Highlanders added another run in the fifth. Helton and Sherman Johnson both singled. Freeman then doubled to score Helton.
Tyler got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Sawyer Dunagan walked and stole second. Zach Zavala singled, and Lathan Van Ausdall single to score Dunagan. Landry Stamps doubled to score Zavala. Micah Roberts walked, and Dalton Wilson hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Van Ausdall.
The Apaches scored another run in the sixth with Zavala's home run.
The Highlanders final run came in the top of the seventh. Johnson singled and Freeman was hit by the pitch. Harden also singled, loading the bases. Goytia then walked to score Johnson.
Tyler tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Roberts walked and Wilson was hit by the pitch. Josiah Mackey singled, loading the bases. Preston Newberry followed with a ground out to score Roberts. Troy Johnson doubled to score Mackey, and Dunagan tripled to score Johnson.
The Apaches scored the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning. Roberts doubled and advanced on a wild pitch. Wilson was given the intentional walked, and Mackey singled to load the bases. Newberry's fielder's choice put Roberts out at home. Johnson was then hit by the pitch, scoring Wilson.
