Baseball earns series win against No. 13 Iowa Central

Iowa Falls, IA – Ellsworth baseball earned the series sweep over No. 13-ranked Iowa Central this past weekend, clinching the three-game docket with the Tritons by winning the first two games on Saturday.

The Panthers used an explosive eight-run second innning in the first game of the series to eventually win the opener by a 9-0 final score. Boston Doeschot, Eric McGill, and Caden Sammler all tallied a home run a piece in the the effort while Jordan Dahlof pitched seven commanding innings on the mound. Dahlof limited the Tritons to just four hits while surrendering no runs and earning six strikeouts. Brandon Weigel was catalyst in breaking the game open with his three-RBI triple in the second inning. Weigel would score in the next at-bat via Doeschot's first home run of the day.

In the second game on Saturday, the Panthers fell into an early first-inning hole via a two-RBI single from Iowa Central's Jake Busson. Ellsworth pitcher Brock Adamson would shutdown the Tritons for the remainder of the game, only allowing five total hits and tallying six strikeouts of his own. 

Offensively, Boston Doeschot added two more home runs - for three total on the day - while teammates Caden Sammler and Riley Schrader added shots of their own. All nine Panthers in the order recorded hits and Doeschot's four RBIs helped power the Panthers to a series-clinching 12-2 victory in seven innings to mark the tenth-straight victory for the Panthers.

On Sunday, the Panthers and Tritons battled in a back-and-forth affair. Facing an early 2-0 hole in the bottom of the second, Ellsworth tied the game by advancing Eric McGill and Maddox O'Connor on separate wild pitches in the same at-bat. The Panthers would respond to several Triton scores; in the bottom of the fourth via a Sam Patton home run to make it 3-3, Dillon Carlson crossing home in the bottom of the fifth and seventh to tie the game 5-5. The Panthers finished off a four-run seventh inning with Patton's RBI ground out and McGill's RBI single to make it 7-5.

A trio of home runs in the top of the 8th gave the Tritons an 11-7 advantage. The Panthers were able to get three back in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn't get the tie or winning run across the plate.

The Panthers next travel to Des Moines Area in Boone on Tuesday for a doubleheader. Ellsworth won the series opener with the Bears back on April 16 in Iowa Falls. The regular season then concludes with a road series at perennial powerhouse Iowa Western on Saturday and Sunday.
