Men’s Basketball: SCC Beats CCC, Sophs Honored

The Central Community College men's basketball team lost to Southeast Community College, 90-70, at the Raider Fieldhouse on Saturday.

Before the final regular season game tipped off, CCC sophomores James Clay, Maal Jal, Kamron Kasischke, Frank Keller, Kazadi Mukoma Jr., Kei'Marion Smith, Carson Starns and Ethan Wiley were recognized.

"Though the result Saturday was not one we wanted, it is still important to acknowledge the role that these eight sophomores have played in the development and growth of the Raiders men's basketball program," said CCC head coach Tyler Francis. "Their impact has been far deeper than just on the floor. How they have represented themselves and this program around campus and in the community is what really has been impressive and made this group of a young men a joy to be around."

The visiting Bobcats took off in the first half and led 46-33 at halftime. The Raiders tried to recover in the second half, but Francis said too many CCC turnovers and SCC offensive rebounds proved too much to overcome.

Mukoma led the Raiders with 18 points while Merkv Torrance finished with 16 points. Keller rounded out CCC's double-digit scoring with 10 points.

CCC closed out the regular season with a mark of 11-17. Up next, the Raiders and the Bobcats will meet in the Region 9 championship on Saturday in Lincoln. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.

"We look toward stretching this season out as long as we can for this group of guys and that starts with the rematch against Southeast," Francis said.
