Red Ravens Storm Back from 19 Down to Defeat the Pirates of Independence 98-94

Coffeyville, Kan - The Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Basketball Team stormed back from being down 19 points in the first half to defeat the Pirates of Independence 98-94.  With the victory, the Red Ravens improved their overall season record to 6-2 including a perfect 3-0 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) games.

Coffeyville started the game with the deer in the headlights look as Independence jumped out with an early 21-3 run to take a 29-10 lead roughly nine minutes into the game.   From then on, the Ravens started to chip away at the lead and climb back into the game.  By halftime, Coffeyville had cut the lead to 12 points at 48-36.

A Coffeyville-made 3-pointer to start the second half cut the lead down to single digits at 48-39.  After a couple of made free throws, Coffeyville took their first lead in the game at 73-72 with 8:30 left in the game.  From that point on, with the comeback complete, it was just a matter of finishing the game off and getting the victory.  Down the stretch, Coffeyville sank crucial free throws and was able to put the Pirates away with a 98-94 exciting early season victory.

Coffeyville had five players in double figures in the contest which included Brian Griffith with a spectacular game-high 29 points and 5 rebounds, Charles Caporaso with 17 points and 6 rebounds, Justin Taylor with 16 points, Kaason Thomas with 12 points, and Daniel Ntambwe with an 11-point 10-rebound double-double.

Coffeyville will return to action on Friday, November 29th with a home matchup against Arkansas State-Newport.  Tipoff in Nellis Gymnasium is set for 5:00 p.m.
