Miami Dade Completes Comeback to Take Game Two Over Daytona State, 3-2
The Sharks secured a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Daytona State College in game two of their doubleheader, fueled by a clutch home run from Gabriela Luz and a dominant complete-game performance from pitcher Aimi Tohara.
Tohara was outstanding in the circle, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out one and walking two over seven innings. She kept the Falcons off the board after the third inning, holding them scoreless for the final four frames.
Daytona State took an early lead in the third, pushing across two runs on an RBI single from Morgan Davis and a bases-loaded walk to Kaili Cannon.
Miami Dade stormed back in the fifth inning. Caroline Mito sparked the rally with an RBI single to right field, scoring Carmela Smith to cut the deficit to 2-1. Moments later, Luz stepped up and delivered the game-winning moment—a two-run blast over the fence, giving the Sharks a 3-2 lead.
Mito and Luz led the offensive charge, with Mito going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base, while Luz finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a walk. Smith also contributed, scoring a run and swiping a base.
Daytona State's Kaylee Martineau took the loss, surrendering three runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings. Alexis Miranda came in for relief and pitched a clean final two outs.
With the sweep, Miami Dade moves to 21-3 on the year and turn their heads now towards Indian River as they'll battle for 2nd and 3rd place in the conference next Tuesday.
