The DMACC baseball team closed out a five-game Texas road trip with a 6-3 loss to Dallas College Eastfield (DCE) February 17 at Mesquite, Texas. The two teams were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader but opted for a 9-inning single game instead.
The Bears returned from Texas with a 4-5 overall record after splitting two games against Dallas College North Lake (DCNL) and going 1-2 in a three-game series against DCE.
DCE scored one run in each of the first two innings in the Feb. 17 game and then fell behind 3-2 as DMACC tallied a run in the third and two in the fifth. DCE made it a 3-3 game with a run in the bottom of the fifth and closed out the win with three runs in the eighth inning.
Sophomore Matt Rivers of Colfax led DMACC with a double and a home run and drove in two runs. Sophomore Colin Driscoll of Waukee had a pair of singles and freshman Adam Leininger of Fargo, N.D. drove in the other DMACC run. Sophomores Carter Bryan of Johnston and Jackson Manning of Keosauqua also doubled for the Bears.
Sophomore Jaqson Tejada of Marion pitched the first four innings for the Bears, allowing three runs on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Freshman Gage Miller of Mandan, N.D., went three and a third innings and fell to 0-1 with the loss. He allowed two runs on three hits, struck out three and walked three. Freshman Nick Cox of Polk City worked two-thirds of an inning and gave up one run on two hits. He struck out one batter and walked two.
The DMACC baseball team will travel to Hutchinson, Kan., for games on Feb. 22 and 23. The Bears will face Heartland (Kan,) Community College (HKCC) in a doubleheader on Feb. 22 and will play a doubleheader against Hutchinson Community College (HCC) on Feb. 23.
