Tritons Rout NDSCS in 2024 Game One Bowl

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Iowa Central hosted No. 3 North Dakota State College of Science in the 2024 Game One Bowl encounter at the UNI Dome. In a game that highlighted the strengths of the Tritons, Iowa Central emerged with a resounding 49-6 victory over the Wildcats.
The Tritons opened up scoring on the first possession going 63 yards on five plays in one minute and 36 seconds, resulting in a Ty Purdy touchdown pass to Akilli Mattox.
From there, Iowa Central scored touchdowns on five of their six possessions, including two 50 yards passes to Dalen Houston (from Purdy) and Austin Ayobamidele (from Dallas Sauser).
By halftime, the Tritons led 42-0 and had outgained the Wildcats 339 yards to 18.

Despite the challenging game, NDSCS managed to put points on the board in the third quarter when Trevion Carothers received a 34-yard pass from Ishmael Emmanuel-Holloway.
Iowa Central put one score on the board in the second half, a four-yard touchdown run by defensive tackle Howard Brown.
Running back Cyncir Bowers was named the Offensive MVP after racking up 106 yards from scrimmage, 91 rushing yards and 15 receiving on just eight touches. He had one touchdown, a 41-yard scamper late in the first quarter. He also had 55 return yards on two kick returns and one punt return.
Defensive MVP honors for the game went to defensive end Joseph Shannon, who recorded five tackles, a sack, two tackles for a loss, and a blocked PAT attempt.
Iowa Central ended the game with 516 yards of offense to just 62 for NDSCS.
Sauser led the Tritons in passing yards with 136 and two touchdowns while Purdy finished with 103 and two TDs. The top two receiving targets for the Tritons were Houston and Ayobamidele who had 70 and 61 yards respectfully.
For North Dakota State, Michael Douglas Jr. had 28 yards on 11 carries, and Carothers had the one catch for 34 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, the Iowa Central defense finished the game with 18 tackles for a loss, two sacks and three takeaways (2 FR & 1 INT).
The Tritons secured their 20th Game One Bowl victory in team history and extended their winning streak to 14 dating back to 2005. The win makes them 20-8 all-time record in the Game One Bowl history. It was their sixth-straight season ending in a Game One Bowl victory.
NDSCS, who last participated in 2009, now stand at 5-3 in their Game One Bowl record.
