Top-seeded Walters State opens up TCCAA/Region 7 Tournament with 12-2 win over Jackson State

CHATTANOOGA, TN – Top-seeded and top-ranked Walters State got off to a strong start to open the TCCAA/Region 7 Tournament on Monday afternoon, coasting to a 12-2 win over Jackson State in five innings. 

With the win, the Senators improved to 50-6-1 on the season. 

Kole Fenton led the way at the plate for Walters State with two hits and three RBIs, while Holden Pantier drove in four runs. Carson Cabbage and Tyler Myatt homered, as well. 

On the mound, Walker Morgan (7-0) got the start and threw all five innings. Morgan allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits while striking out four. 

The Senators got on the board first in the game with seven, two-out runs in the second. Taylor Harris started the rally with a single and Fenton doubled him home to make it 1-0. Nate Conner was next up and singled home Fenton to extend the lead to two. After a single by Jack Vogele and Myatt walked to load the bases, Pantier drove them all in with a three-RBI single that made it 5-0. The final two runs of the inning came when Cabbage smoked a two-run homer over the fence in left. 

Jackson got on the board with two runs in the third, but Myatt got a run back in the fourth on a solo shot just over the fence in right. The Senators scored two more runs in the inning when Fenton singled home two runs to make it 10-2. 

The final two runs for the Senators came in the fifth on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded and a wild pitch that scored Vogele to end the game at 12-2.

Walters State will be back in action on Tuesday, taking on fourth seeded Southwest Tennessee at Chattanooga State at 10 am ET.
