Baseball Disappoints At Owens

PERRYSBURG, OH -- The Community Christian College Baseball team fell in both games against former regional champion Owens Community College by a combined score of 15-1 on Tuesday. The Lions hung in tough in Game 2, thanks to superb pitching by Ricky Bugg, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Express.

This matchup is the first of three doubleheaders, as these teams will play on back-to-back days in mid-April.

Game 1 opened with 11 runs scored by Owens in two innings, as they went on to win by mercy rule shortly thereafter.

In Game 2, CCC took the lead in the Top of the 2nd, thanks to Nate Copas hitting a double, followed by a stolen base in his season debut. A couple batters walked later, and Nate Crane would draw a BB to score their first run of the day.

In the Bottom of the 3rd Inning, luck would run out, as the Express would homer with a man on base to take the lead for the rest of the game.

Copas would account for a third of the team's hitting power, hitting 3 out of the team's 9 for the day.

Matt Shakotko accumulated three hits as well, and drew a walk.

Community Christian continues their road adventure this weekend against Illinois Central, for four games in two days. First pitch is scheduled for 2pm on Saturday.
