The M State Men's Basketball team bounced back from their first loss of the season on Friday night to Central Lakes, by handing Gogebic Community College an 82-73 loss on Saturday afternoon in Fergus Falls. With the win the Spartans improve their season record to 10-1 as they prepare to play in the Central Lakes Tournament in Brainerd on Friday.
M State again had great offensive contributions from their starters with Mason Muir and Foday Sheriff each scoring 25 points. Muir made all 11 of his free throw attempts and the Spartans were 18-of-18 as a team from the line. Javin Tindall was also in double digits with 11 points. Tindall also had 12 rebounds and Sheriff grabbed 16 boards as both players recorded double-doubles. Tindall led the team with 4 assists. The Spartans shot 43.9% (29-66) from the field and won the rebounding battle, 50-26.
Gogebic had four players reach double figures, led by Enrique Moreno-Bautista with 19 points off the bench. X'Zavion McCoy scored 17 and dished out seven assists, while coming up with 4 steals. Cori Johnson had 15 points and 4 assists, and Jalen Browning scored 13 points and secured a team high 7 rebounds.
M State improves to 10-1 on the season, while Gogebic drops to 5-5.
