A doubleheader sweep

A doubleheader sweep

The Cyclones were ready to play in their second day of spring training, evident in their doubleheader sweep of the Community College of Rhode Island.

GAME ONE
From their first at-bat, the Cyclones scored, starting with a single from Timothy O'Connell (2-for-4). Alejandro Munoz and Preston Lund (2-for-3, RBI) were walked to load the bases. With two outs, Christian Rosales hit a grounder that was bobbled by the third baseman to score the first run. The Cyclones biggest inning was the third, where they added four more runs to lead 6-1. Rhode Island attempted to make a comeback in the seventh with three runs, but it wasn't enough for the Cyclones winning it 7-4.

Caston Norris had a big game with a three-run triple in the third inning. Lucas Hicks was the winning pitcher, walking two and striking out three.

GAME TWO
A steady stream of hits by both teams could've gone either way, but the Cyclones came out ahead 3-1.

Moraine Valley got on the board first in the second inning. Nicholas Haran (1-for-3) got on base with a line drive to left field before stealing second and advancing to third on a catching error. Lund (2-for-3) knocked him in with a single to right field. Rhode Island scored on a couple of solid hits in the fourth inning until Moraine Valley countered with another run off an RBI single from Mateo Velazquez (2-for-4, 2 RBIs). Pitching was solid for both teams the next few innings until the seventh when Norris walked, Munoz (1-for-4) singled and Velazquez drove in the final run on a hard grounder. Nathan Bucio was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts.
