Spartans Struggle in Road Loss to Des Moines Area

The Southwestern Spartans men's basketball team faced a tough road challenge against Des Moines Area Community College on January 25, falling 81-65. With the loss, the Spartans drop to 10-13 overall and 4-7 in ICCAC play, placing them 8th in the conference standings.

Southwestern started strong, staying within four points at halftime (33-37). However, Des Moines Area pulled away in the second half, capitalizing on turnovers and inconsistent shooting from the Spartans.

Head Coach Darryl Fletcher commented on the team's performance:
"We gave up a few offensive rebounds early, but for most of the first half, we stayed competitive. Unfortunately, we struggled with shot-making and turnovers throughout the game. Against quality opponents, we can't afford sloppy play. We'll use this week to rest and refocus before our next game."

The Spartans will return to action on Saturday, February 1, when they host Iowa Central in Creston.
