Sharks Rally Past Hillsborough for Sophomore Night Victory, 83-77
The Miami Dade College Sharks team delivered a thrilling comeback on Sophomore Night, overcoming a halftime deficit to defeat Hillsborough Community College 83-77. A dominant second half, highlighted by clutch shooting and defensive adjustments, lifted the Sharks to victory in front of their home crowd.
Despite trailing 43-38 at the break, MDC responded with an explosive 45-point second half, fueled by efficient shooting and strong rebounding. The Sharks shot 52.6% from the field and knocked down eight three-pointers, while also capitalizing at the free-throw line.
Freshman Randy Smith led the charge with 20 points, hitting four three-pointers and converting crucial free throws down the stretch. Jamaal Morris was a force in the paint, recording a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while also dishing out seven assists. Faheim Saintleger Meran added 15 points and six rebounds, providing key buckets during MDC's second-half surge.
Off the bench, Ernesto Rodriguez delivered a major spark, scoring 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including three makes from beyond the arc. Jordan Cooke also contributed with eight points in limited minutes.
Hillsborough put up a strong fight, led by Chandler Davis' 22 points and 13 rebounds, but their 57.1% free-throw shooting (8-of-14) proved costly in a tight contest. Austin White (14 points, four three-pointers) and Misael Cruz Rodriguez (13 points, 11 rebounds) also had strong performances, but MDC's defensive pressure in the final minutes stifled the Hawks' offense.
With the win, the Sharks celebrate their sophomores in style and build momentum heading into the FCSAA State Tournament.
