Lady Indians split a doubleheader on the road at Enterprise State
Chipola moved to 10-6 after an 11-0 win in game one and 8-7 loss in game two
ENTERPRISE, Ala. - The Lady Indians (10-6) traveled to Enterprise, Alabama on Tuesday to face the Boll Weevils from Enterprise State Community College. The Lady Indians run-ruled ESCC in game one, 11-0, in five innings. In game two, Chipola led by three in the bottom of the final inning but after the Boll Weevils loaded the bases, a grand slam gave Enterprise State an 8-7 walk-off win.
Game 1: Chipola 11 Enterprise State 0
In the Lady Indians' 11-0 win in game one, Hannah Worthington pitched a complete game, one-hitter to get her fifth win of season. The sophomore right-hander walked two and struckout three in five innings of work in the circle. After retiring the first six batters she faced, Worthington allowed two ESCC hitters to reach on a walk and an error in the third with one out. Chipola would leave them on the bases as a ground ball and a line drive ended the inning.
While Worthington was keeping ESCC off the basepaths, the Lady Indians were hot at the plate. After scoring four runs in the first two innings, the Lady Indians erupted for five in the third. Most of the damage was done without the ball leaving the infield but a two-run double from Paris Rodgers capped off the scoring at 9-0.
Chipola added another run in the fourth on doubles from Hannah Capps and Morgan Hodges. In the fifth inning, another double led to the final Chipola run. After Rani Meaux's two-bagger with one out, pinch-hitter Riley Read singled up the middle to bring Meaux in for the 11th run.
Leaders at the plate for game 1 were Anyela Ruiz Gomez (2-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI) and Rami Meaux (2-for-4, RBI). Paris Rodgers was also 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, and two RBI.
Game 2: Chipola 7 Enterprise State 8
For the first three innings in game two, starting pitcher Anyela Ruiz Gomez picked up where Worthington left off. The Boll Weevils did not get a baserunner to third until the fourth inning when three walks and a hit batter resulted in ESCC's first run of the day.
The Lady Indians also continued their scoring in game two from the start. Making her first start of the season, Keyla Arce Camacho walked to leadoff the game and moved to third on Diana Arcay's double. A sacrifice fly from Ruiz Gomez scored Arce Camacho and gave Chipola an early 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, Paris Rodgers led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a walk to Rani Meaux. With two outs, Keara Millender singled to load the bases. A third strike that got away from ESCC's catcher allowed Jadyn Riano to reach first but more importantly allowed Rodgers to score from third to give the Lady Indians a 2-0 lead at the midpoint of the game.
Enterprise State would take their first lead of the day in the bottom of the fifth inning. A pair of singles, a walk, and a double to the wall in center scored turned into two runs to give the Boll Weevils a 3-2 lead.
Chipola answered back in the fifth triggered by a Rani Meaux getting hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. With one out, three consecutive singles from Hannah Capps, Keara Millender, and Gabrie Flowers tied the score 3-3. A walk to Riley Read and an infield single from Diana Arcay led to two more runs and kept the bases loaded. With two outs, Paris Rodgers walked to score Flowers and then a passed ball with Meaux back up to the plate scored Read from third.
Trailing 7-3 in the bottom of the sixth, the Boll Weevils picked up a run on relief pitcher Adrianna Carter. With one out, a walk, single, and an error loaded the bases and a sac fly pulled ESCC closer at 7-4 headed to the final inning.
Chipola could not add to their lead despite Hannah Capps picking up her second hit of the game.
Not being able to add a run in the 7th would come back to haunt the Lady Indians. Following a lead off walk, an infield single and an error ESCC loaded the bases with no outs. On the second pitch to the next hitter, ShaKeria Washington, the sophomore catcher hit a line drive that went out of the park in left field for a walk-off 8-7 win for the Boll Weevils.
