CLEVELAND, NC – The Louisburg College Hurricanes and Cleveland CC Yetis battled through an action-packed doubleheader on February 14, 2025, with each team claiming a victory. The Hurricanes took game one 9-6, while the Yetis responded with an 8-5 win in game two.
Game 1: Hurricanes Power Past Yetis 9-6
The Hurricanes came out strong in the first game of the day, utilizing a five-run third inning to build an early lead that proved insurmountable for the Yetis. Louisburg's offense recorded 12 hits, led by Taiowa Costello, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI and three stolen bases. Jake Modrak contributed a crucial two-run double in the third, while Colin Cusick and Troy Daniels also chipped in with RBIs.
On the mound, Casey Culbreth (1-0) delivered a solid 5.2-inning performance, allowing no earned runs on five walks and nine strikeouts. The Yetis mounted a late rally, scoring four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh, but Louisburg's bullpen, anchored by Benjamin Blondino (1st save), held them off.
For Cleveland CC, Cruise Arnold had a key two-run double in the sixth, and Keontay Booker contributed with an RBI walk. Pitching struggles, however, doomed the Yetis early, as Ian Hawk (0-1) allowed six runs (five earned) over 2.1 innings.
Game 2: Yetis Strike Back with 8-5 Victory
Cleveland rebounded in game two, overcoming a mid-game push from the Hurricanes. The Yetis took control in the fifth inning, with Keontay Booker launching a grand slam that broke the game open and gave them a four-run cushion.
Despite a five-run effort from Louisburg, they couldn't overcome the Yetis' efficient pitching. Jackson Gowan (1-0) earned the win with five innings of work, allowing three runs while striking out five. The bullpen, consisting of Miles Corcoran and Tyler Smart, closed the game efficiently, allowing only two additional runs.
Offensively, Louisburg's Stephen Kriner (2-for-2, 1 run) and Evan Slawinski (1-for-3, 1 RBI) kept the team in the game, while Cleveland's Gage Doss (2 RBIs) and Logan Norris (2-for-2, 1 run) supported Booker's dominant offensive display.
With the split series, both teams demonstrated resilience, setting up an exciting rest of the season. The Hurricanes will look to tighten up defensively after committing three errors in game two, while the Yetis aim to build on their late-game heroics.
