Bears Narrowly Defeat the Hinds Bulldogs!

In a thrilling contest during the Southwest Mississippi Community College Coca-Cola Classic, the Baton Rouge Bears narrowly defeated the Hinds Bulldogs, 71-68, this afternoon in Summit, Mississippi.

The game opened with both teams trying to establish their offensive strategies, resulting in a rapid exchange of leads. In the first five minutes, there were four lead changes and four ties. After the game was tied at eight, the Bulldogs went on a mini 13-7 run, taking a six-point lead at 21-15 with 12:37 remaining in the half. The Bears responded with a 6-0 run of their own, tying the game at 21. Cardez Norman, Awak Machar, and McKennis Savoie were key contributors during this stretch. However, the Bears struggled to contain Bulldogs' Jakobe Singleton, who helped extend the Bulldogs' lead to eight points, with a halftime score of 43-35 in favor of Hinds.

During halftime, Coach Starks urged his team to maintain their gameplay and improve their defensive efforts against Hinds.

The Bears opened the second half aggressively, launching a 10-2 run that tied the game at 45 with 15 minutes remaining. Over the next 13 minutes, both teams exchanged baskets and leads. With the game tied at 64, Freshman Forward Chad Jones hit a crucial three-pointer that ultimately gave the Bears the lead they would maintain until the end. Christian Myers sealed the victory with a slam dunk with 27 seconds left on the clock, finalizing the score at 71-68.

The Bears were led in scoring by Freshman McKennis Savoie, who had 13 points. Dylan Dominique contributed 12 points, while Christian Myers recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. For the Bulldogs, Jakobe Singleton led all scorers with an impressive 34 points, and one other player reached double figures.

With this victory, the Bears improved their record to 4-1, while the Bulldogs fell to 3-2 for the season. The all-time series record now stands at 6 wins for Baton Rouge and 3 losses against Hinds.
