Turnovers Kill Blue Devils in Loss to Highland

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team fell short to the Highland Community College Scotties, 73-61 Jan.22 at Highland Community College in Highland, Kan. The Blue Devils were one shy of tying their season-high in turnovers. The only other game they had more was against North Platte on Dec.13 with 36 turnovers.

Capri Garrett led the team with 16 points while bringing down eight rebounds, one assist and one steal. Both Ja'Cole Johnson and Zoe Clark finished the game with 14 points, combining for 7-25 from the floor and 4-10 from three-point range. Emma Berenguer Fernandez went 4-6 from the field, finished with nine points and managed to record a team-high three steals. Both Destiny Ochs and Kylee West came off the bench and scored four points each, also drilling two free throws.

For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 21-53 from the field (39.6%), 4-14 from three-point range (28.6%) and 15-23 the free-throw line (65.2%). The Scotties shot 30-72 from the field (41.7%), 3-18 from three-point range (16.7%) and 10-26 from the free-throw line (38.5%).

The next game for the Lady Blue Devils is against the Hesston College Larks at 1 p.m. Jan. 25 at Hesston College in Hesston, Kan.
