Reivers Knock Off No. 2 Kirkwood on the Road
The Iowa Western Reivers travelled to Cedar Rapids for a matchup with the 2nd ranked Kirkwood Eagles on Wednesday evening. In the early going the two teams exchanged runs. With under 10 minutes in the first half the Eagles went on a mini run to take their largest lead of the game at 7 points.
The Reivers would counter to close the half, and Madelo Deng knocked in a 3 at the buzzer to give the Reivers a 3-point advantage at halftime 36-33.
In the second half the Reivers kept the Kirkwood defense off balance. DaCarter Coleman nailed a pair of 3-pointers in the early going of the second half to help the Reivers extend their lead. Iowa Western would go on to hold the lead for the remainder of the game.
Champ Calamese had a big game with 22 points to lead all scorers. Calamese was able to get to the rim and convert for the Reivers. Jadon Cool chipped in 14 points and Daleron Thomas finished with 13 points. Nate Parras also finished in double figures with 11 points which included a big 3-pointer to help seal the 80 to 70 win in the final minutes.
The Reivers move to 14-7 overall on the season and 6-4 in the ICCAC. Iowa Western will host Western Iowa Tech on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
