The Pitt Community College Bulldogs faced off against the Cleveland Community College Yetis in a three-game softball series on February 28 and March 1, 2025. The series showcased competitive play, with the Yetis coming out on top in all three matchups.
Game 1: CCC Yetis Impressive In Win Against Pitt CC Bulldogs (11-3)
The Yetis opened the series with a commanding 11-3 victory over Pitt CC. The Bulldogs struck first in the top of the first inning after an error led to a run. However, the Yetis responded swiftly, with Austyn Dixon doubling in two runs to take the lead.
CCC continued their offensive push, adding runs in the second and third innings, including an RBI double by Elizabeth Smith and a two-run homer by Rachel Humphries for Pitt CC. The Yetis sealed the win with additional runs in the later innings, including RBIs from Jaylen Ledbetter, Molly Beam, and Allison Setzer.
Christian Beaver earned the win, pitching six innings while allowing only four hits and striking out six. Setzer led the offensive charge, going 3-for-3, while Smith, Dixon, and Setzer each drove in two runs. Humphries led Pitt CC, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Game 2: CCC Yetis Win In Fashion, Walk It Off Versus Pitt CC Bulldogs (6-5)
In a thrilling second game, the Yetis secured a walk-off 6-5 victory. The Bulldogs jumped ahead early, but CCC quickly regained control with a three-run homer from Sara Rose Warlick in the bottom of the first.
The back-and-forth battle continued as Pitt CC tied the game in the third and retook the lead in the fifth inning. However, the Yetis rallied in the bottom of the seventh, capitalizing on a crucial error that allowed two runs to score, securing the walk-off win.
Sayge Strange pitched a complete game for the Yetis, allowing only three hits and striking out four. Warlick led the offense with three RBIs, while Austyn Dixon contributed a solo home run. For Pitt CC, Rachel Humphries and Nicole Ramirez combined for four RBIs, with Ramirez going 2-for-2 at the plate.
Game 3: Kassie Swink Leads CCC Yetis to Shutout Win Over Pitt CC Bulldogs (5-0)
The final game of the series saw an impressive offensive and defensive performance from CCC, as they blanked Pitt CC 5-0. Kassie Swink led the charge, going 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and an RBI single.
The Yetis jumped ahead early, scoring three runs in the first inning behind Swink's RBI double and Jaylen Ledbetter's two-run single. Swink added another run in the second with a triple down the left-field line.
Christian Beaver was dominant in the circle, pitching a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits and striking out seven. Pitt CC struggled offensively, managing only four hits, with Aleya Hudson, Reagan Stapleton, Megan Stotesberry, and Nicole Ramirez each contributing one.
Looking Ahead
The Bulldogs will look to regroup after a tough series, while the Yetis, riding high on their three-game sweep, will prepare for their next matchup against Southwest Virginia Community College. The series showcased the Yetis' offensive depth and strong pitching, making them a formidable opponent moving forward.
