Panthers Lead Entire Way in Win Over Onondaga

The Panthers men's basketball team improved to 2-0 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference with a wire-to-wire 77-61 win over Onondaga Community College on Wednesday. Onondaga is now 0-2 in the MSAC and 1-4 overall.

The Panthers never trailed. The home team forced 14 turnovers in the first half while racing to a 12-point lead midway through the first half. The margin held at 12 at the break, 42-30, before Onondaga made a bit of a run in the second half. After the lead pushed to 13 points, Onondaga creeped back to within five points, 64-59, with 3:45 left. The Panther answered with nine straight and closed the game on a 13-2 run to seal the win.

Javonte Long (Harlem/Clayton H.S.) led the way with his second straight double-double and a huge stat line of 22 points, 13 rebounds, 8 steals, and 7 assists. Marqiis Samuels (Long Island/The Patrick School) finished with 14 points and Daryl Montgomery (Buffalo/Cheektowaga H.S.) and Sheldon Schuler (New Haven, Conn./Lee Academy Prep) each had 9 points.
