PALATKA, Fla.- The #4 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers opened play at the Capital City Bank Classic with a bang on Friday, launching three home runs in a dominating 15-6 run rule win over the East Georgia Bobcats for their seventh straight victory.
Both sides had traffic but couldn't score in the 1st and it was FSW getting on the board first in the top of the 2nd as Devin Parks singled through the left side to drive home a run and after a sacrifice fly from Luke Orfi, a two run single from Jonah St. Antoine made it a 4-0 game in favor of the Bucs. Not done yet, Carlos Sanchez drilled a two out RBI double the other way to cap a five run inning for FSW to stake them out to a 5-0 lead.
Bucs starter Brady Jones worked himself in and out of trouble in the bottom of the 2nd to keep it a 5-0 game and FSW blew things wide open in the 3rd as Parks launched his second home run in as many games, a three run shot to make it 8-0 before Sanchez drove in his second run of the game later in the frame to make it a 9-0 contest.
Jones was electric in the 3rd, striking out the side to exit with a 9-0 advantage after three.
East Georgia took advantage of FSW going to the bullpen in the 4th, using three free passes and three hits to score three times and trim the Bucs lead to 9-3 at the end of four.
A wild pitch gave FSW their 10th run of the game in the 6th and Jake Mueller smoked a moon shot to dead center for his third home run of the year to make it an 11-3 game.
The Bobcats answered with a crooked number of their own in the bottom half of the inning to get back in the game and make it an 11-6 contest.
The Bucs put the game away in the top of the 7th as they loaded the bases without the benefit of a hit and Sanchez cashed in the ducks on the pond with a grand slam to the deepest part of the park to blow things open to 15-6 at stretch time.
Needing two runs to keep the game going, the Bobcats loaded the bases with one out in the 7th but a pair of pop ups on the infield sealed their fate as FSW closed out a 15-6 run rule win in seven.
Sanchez had a monster game for the Bucs, going 3-5 and missing the cycle by just a triple while driving in six. Parks was 2-4 with four RBIs of his own. Jones earned his first collegiate victory, going three scoreless innings and striking out six in his best outing of his young career.
FSW wins their seventh straight to improve to 7-1 on the year while East Georgia falls to 6-5.
The Bucs will continue play at the Capital City Bank Classic on Saturday with a pair of Top 10 matchups as they will be up bright and early for a 10 AM first pitch against DII #3 St. Johns River before squaring off with #8 Florence-Darlington in their second game of the day at 1:00.
