The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks lost a neck-and-neck game to the Bay College Norse 84-73 in a conference clash Saturday night. The Jayhawks and the Norse both sat at just two losses in conference play before their matchup. The Jayhawks narrow loss moves their record to 7-3 and places them at third place in conference play, right behind the Norse. The Jayhawks and the Norse traded blows in the first half, and neither team seemed to be able to string together multiple defensive stops. Sophomore guards Kevon Washington and Will Chye led the way for the Jayhawks scoring 13 and ten points respectively in the first half. Freshman forward Ny'Zhem Marshall dominated the paint on the defensive side in the first half, blocking four shots in just 16 minutes of play. The Norse led Muskegon 46-37 heading into halftime. The second half was an even affair, but the Jayhawks could not capture a lead. The Norse outscored the Jayhawks 38-36 in the second half. Will Chye was the scoring leader for Muskegon, finishing with 25 points. Kevon Washington added 17 points of his own. Ny'Zhem Marshall finished with ten points, 12 rebounds and five blocks. The Jayhawks do not have much time to rest- their next matchup is on Monday, February 17th against the Montcalm Centurions at Bartels-Rhode Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
